NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team defeated Iona 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Graduate defender Fatou Doucoure and freshman forward Gianna Grassifulli scored the goals for the Peacocks.
Game Notes
- Iona recorded three shots in the first 11 minutes, but none of them tested freshman goalie Olivia Mackethan.
- The first shot on target of the game came in the 36th minute. It came from Doucoure, who was delivered a beautiful pass from graduate midfielder Skyler Owens. Doucoure slotted the ball into the right side of the goal with her left foot to put the Peacocks up 1-0. Graduate midfielder Kinlee Bruns was also awarded an assist on the goal.
- The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Peacocks at the break.
- After freshman midfielder Alyssa Hackett missed a golden chance right out of the break, she set up freshman forward Gianna Grassifulli for her first career goal to put the Peacocks up 2-0.
- The Gaels were awarded a penalty kick in the 69th minute, but they hit the crossbar and Saint Peter's was able to clear.
- Iona scored in the 71st minute to cut the deficit in half.
- The Peacocks would hold on to open up conference play 1-0 and win their second game of the season.

- Dourcoure's goal was her first of the season and the second of her career.
- Grassifulli's goal was the first of her career.
- Owens' assist was her third of the season and the fourth of her career.
- Bruns' assist was her first of the season and of her career.
- Hackett's assist was the first of her career.
- Saint Peter's recorded nine shots. Hackett led the team with three. Doucoure and graduate forward Mya Daniels each had two. Grassifulli and freshman forward Taylor also contributed one shot each.
