Women’s Volleyball Closes New Hampshire Tournament with Pair of Losses

Durham, N.H. – Saint Peter's women's volleyball (0-3) dropped both of its Saturday contests at the season-opening Holly Young Invitational, falling in three sets to Saint Francis Brooklyn (2-1) and New Hampshire (3-0).

Freshman middle blocker Morgan Thurlow recorded team-highs of six kills in both matches, hitting .364 against the Wildcats and .176 against the Terriers.

Saint Francis Brooklyn Rundown
  • A 13-3 run from 5-5 in the first set helped the Terriers take control of the opening frame, going on to win it 25-14.
  • Trailing by as many as five in the set and 24-21, the Peacocks rallied – saving four set points to push the Terriers. Saint Francis would still prevail, taking the frame, 27-25.
  • Saint Peter's continued the positive momentum into the third set, leading 12-10. The Terriers would seize control down the stretch, using several 3-0 runs to close out the match with a 25-17 final-set win.
New Hampshire Rundown
  • The Wildcats dominated the opening frame, using eight aces to earn a 25-6 win.
  • Saint Peter's was strong early in the second set, using a 5-0 run to tie the frame, 10-10. New Hampshire found its form down the stretch, though, closing on a 15-2 run to take it 25-12.
  • Junior Alexis Kapales rattled off three aces during an 8-0 run to help the Peacocks out to a 12-5 lead in the third set. The Wildcats found a way to recover, going on a run to tie it 16-16. New Hampshire would close out the match, 25-21.
Inside the Numbers
  • Freshman middle blocker Elena Bilhartz was the leading scorer against the Terriers, finishing with 10 points off five kills, three aces and three blocks.
  • Thurlow helped out with the Peacocks' attacking success through the middle, leading the team in both matches against Saint Francis and New Hampshire with six kills during each outing.
  • Freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Tucker also had a team-high six kills against the Wildcats.
  • Freshman setter Lillian Konrad more than doubled her assist total from her debut, finishing with 21 assists in the match against the Terriers. She had 16 assists in the match against New Hampshire.

Saint Peter's returns to action in New Jersey on Tuesday – traveling to Newark for a match with NJIT. Action gets underway at 6 p.m. in the NJIT Wellness and Events Center.
