NEWARK, Del. - The Saint Peter's University baseball program was upended by Delaware, 13-0, in the middle match of the two schools' three-game set on Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium. Three separate Peacocks recorded a hit, as Saint Peter's will look to salvage the series with a win in the finale tomorrow afternoon.
Top Performers
- Graduate student Tom Buckman, sophomore Collin Jensen and rookie Tyler Smith all recorded hits for the Peacocks.
- Sophomore Christian Perez logged two innings of relief, fanning two while working around two hits.
- Junior Christian Coombes finished the game with a clean final inning of work, striking out two of the five batters he faced while working around two walks.
How it Happened
- Buckman started the game with a leadoff single and got to second on a walk, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the early Saint Peter's threat.
- The Peacocks got base runners on in the second and fourth but were unable to capitalize, while Denver was able to balloon its lead to 4-0 after four innings.
- The Blue Hens put the game out of reach with nine runs between two innings, tacking on six in the fifth frame before another three crossed in the sixth.
- Saint Peter's had the bases loaded in the seventh and then had runners in scoring position in each of the final two stanzas but was unable to push a run across in either situation.
