JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team lost to Niagara 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for 3 p.m. today, but was moved to 10 a.m. due to the remnants of Hurricane Ian. After 45 minutes of play, there was a 20 minute lightning delay that caused the second half to be pushed back. After that, the original site of the game, Jaroschak Field, was deemed unplayable. The two teams then traveled to a turf field in nearby Lincoln Park and completed the last 45 minutes of the game. It rained throughout the duration of the two halfs.
Game Notes
- The Peacocks generated the first chance of the game, when freshman forward Alyssa Hacket created a chance inside the box during the third minute. Her attempt was straight on and saved.
- Niagara came right back in the fourth minute and created their own scoring chance, but freshman goalkeeper Olivia Mackethan made the save.
- Niagara scored in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 lead. They would lead up 1-0 going into the break.
- The Purple Eagles got off to a quick start on the turf surface, hitting the post in the 48th minute.
- Graduate midfielder Skyler Owens had a shot from distance that was close but saved in the 66th minute.
- The Purple Eagles scored again in the 69th minute.
- The score finished 2-0.
Inside the Numbers
- Saint Peter's recorded seven shots. Freshman forward Gianna Grassifulli and senior midfielder Jazmin Brown each had two. Hackett, Owens, and graduate defender Brook Boutchie had one.
- The Peacocks recorded six shots on target. Grassifulli missed one wide of the seven shots in the game.
- Mackethan played the first half and made two saves.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Annabelle Adams played the second half.

- Today was different!! Stoppage because of lightning, pouring rain and a change of field at half time!
- I thought we had the better chances today but unfortunately we didn't take them which ended up costing us the game. We are looking forward to Wednesday.
