MAAC Circuit Begins for Women’s Volleyball in Connecticut this Weekend

Peacocks will visit Quinnipiac on Saturday and Fairfield on Sunday

First Serve
  • Saint Peter's women's volleyball will open up the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season this weekend with a pair of contests in Connecticut.
  • The Peacocks will take on Quinnipiac Friday, September 18 at 1pm in Hamden, followed by a meeting in Fairfield against the defending regular season champion Stags on Sunday, September 19 at 1pm.
  • SPU enters league play with a 1-10 overall record, after picking up its first win of the campaign over FDU and going 1-2 at the Friar Classic last weekend.
  • Both Wildalys Soto and Alanis Alvarado recorded double-doubles in the 3-1 win over the Knights, to capture the victory.
  • On the season, Soto leads the Peacocks and ranks fifth on the MAAC leaderboard in assists, while Alvarado sits in seventh place on the conference's kills leaderboard
Things to Know Before the Start of MAAC Play
All-Time Series against Quinnipiac
  • Saint Peter's and Quinnipiac clash for the 17th all-time meeting on Saturday, dating back to 2007. 
  • The Peacocks hold a 5-11 all-time record against the Bobcats -- 3-11 since QU joined the MAAC in 2013 -- having fallen in eight straight meetings.
  • The last time SPU defeated QU was during a 2015 home match, claiming a 3-1 victory.
  • The last road victory for the Peacocks in the series came the previous year on Oct. 25, 2014, winning in straight sets.
  • Quinnipiac hobbles into MAAC play with a 1-8 overall record, losers of eight straight matches.
All-Time Series against Fairfield
  • When matching up with MAAC perennial powerhouse Fairfield, Saint Peter's trails the all-time series 5-43 since first meeting up in 1985.
  • SPU has not defeated the Stags in 18 tries, last knocking off Fairfield in Jersey City during the 2010 regular season finale.
  • Fairfield, who has claimed six out of the last nine MAAC tournament titles, enters conference action as winners of four out five matches and holds an overall record of a 5-6.
Double-Double Duo
  • Graduate setter Wildalys Soto and senior outside hitter Alanis Alvarado have combined for all five of Saint Peter's double-doubles this season.
  • Soto leads the Peacocks with three total double-doubles, recording two against St. Francis Brooklyn (Aug. 28 and Sept. 8) and one versus Fairleigh Dickinson (Sept. 11).
  • Alvarado has a pair of double-doubles, earning the accolades against St. Francis Brooklyn (Aug. 28) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Sept. 11) as well.
  • The duo also has an identical 21 career double-doubles for their respective careers. 
Soto All-Tournament Selection
  • Wildalys Soto was named to the Friar Classic All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the weekend invitational.
  • During SPU's three contests in Providence, RI, Soto handed out a team-leading 61 assists and accounted for 29 digs.
  • On Saturday morning against FDU, she recorded her first career 30-20 match, going for a season-high 36 assists and career-high 20 digs, ultimately giving SPU its first win in 2021.
