  • The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team continues out of conference action this week, visiting nearby Newark for a matchup against New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
  • The Peacocks will meet the Highlanders on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 6 pm in the Wellness and Events Center on the campus of NJIT.
  • SPU enters the match 0-3, after opening the season in Dover, DE in the DSU Hornet Invite, losing to Delaware State (0-3), St. Francis Brooklyn (1-3), and Bucknell (0-3).
  • Leading the flock offensively during the multi-team invitational was Alanis Alvarado, who posted a double-double against SFC on Saturday and led the lineup in total kills and points through the three games.
  • Defensively, sophomore Alwen Pila led the team with 41 digs, while freshman Suzzanne Bigelow led the team with 11 blocks.
  • Tuesday's game will be the season-opener for NJIT as the team did not compete during the opening week of the regular season this past weekend.

Series History
  • Despite the close proximity between Jersey City and Newark, Saint Peter's and NJIT have only met 17 times previously, with the first matchup coming in 2007.
  • All-time, SPU trails NJIT 4-13.
  • When the teams last met during the 2018 campaign, SPU came away with a 3-2 neutral site victory in the Bucknell Invitational.
  • The Peacocks have never defeated the Highlanders on road, dropping all six battles in Newark.

  • With one week of play in the books, first year middle blocker Suzzanne Bigelow leads the conference in total blocks and blocks per set.
  • The rookie from Glendale, AZ amassed 11 total blocks (8 ba, 3 bs), logging a 1.57 blocks per set average through three games.
  • Nationally, Bigelow ranks fourth among NCAA freshmen in blocks per set and 40th overall.
  • No other player in the MAAC surpassed double figure blocks in the opening week.
