Baseball Falls to Undefeated Fairfield on Wednesday

Box Score 1 JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's University baseball team dropped Wednesday's twin bill against top ranked Fairfield University on Wednesday afternoon at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field in Jersey City. The Peacocks record this season falls to 2-8 following the couple of defeats, while the Stags improved to 22-0.

How It Happened
  • Fairfield, which entered the series as the only undefeated team in the country, scored runs in all but the sixth inning.
  • The Stags, who have garnered national votes in the Top-25 poll, posted innings of seven (1), four (2), one (3), two (4), three (5) and three (7) runs, totaling a 20-run game.
  • Saint Peter's was held run-less until the bottom of the seventh inning, when the team mustered up two tallies of their own.
  • Leadoff batter Parker Gray was awarded a walk, followed by Matthew Dubois' single to left center.
  • A sacrifice groundout by Nick Font advanced the two to second and third, before Cristian Perez hit a 2 RBI double to right field, erasing the shutout.
Notes
  • Perez went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, with a double and both of Saint Peter's RBIs.
  • Dubois had the team's other hit in the game, going 1-of-3 at the bag with a run scored.
  • Fairfield's reliever, Peter Ostensen (2-0) was the winning pitcher, while Kyle Mahady (0-2) received the defeat for the Peacocks.
  • Saint Peter's forfeited the second game of the doubleheader, resulting in the sweep.
 
Up Next 
  • The Peacocks hit the road for the first time this season, when the unit visits Siena College.
  • Due to impending inclement weather on Sunday, the series will now be played on Friday, April 23 and Saturday April 24 with first pitch at noon both days.
