First Pitch
  • The Saint Peter's University baseball squad is back in action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting unbeaten Fairfield University in a midweek twin bill.
  • First pitch times for the doubleheader will be at 12pm and 3pm.
  • The Peacocks improved the season's record to 2-6 following the weekend's four-game set against Marist.
  • Saint Peter's added another W to the win column after holding Marist to a 3-0 shutout win.
  • Senior pitcher Jordan Warecke snagged his first career win in the victory, while senior Ryan Wappaus earned the save.
  • On the season, captain Andrew Connor leads all position players with a .455 (10-of-22) batting average and he is the only Peacocks this season to record every hit in the cycle (single, double, triple, and home run).
  • The Fairfield Stags bring an impressive 20-0 record to Jersey City, having toppled every opponent faced during 2021.
  • The Stags are the only undefeated team in the country and the team holds the top spot in the National RPI rankings, the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) poll, and are receiving votes in the national Top-25 USA Today Coaches Poll.
Things to Know Before the Series
Series History
  • The series between Saint Peter's and Fairfield first began in 1969 and the two sides have since met 131 times, with the Peacocks trailing the series 35-96.
  • SPU has fallen in 14 consecutive meetings dating back to 2014.
  • The last time the Peacocks earned a win and took a series from the Stags was during a 2013 road series.
  • During that three-game set, Saint Peter's earned back to back victories during the final two contests, winning 8-7 and 11-7 to close the series.
  • The last home victory for the Peacocks versus the Stags came the prior season in 2012, winning the final two games of that series 5-1 and 2-1.
 Warecke's Gem
  • Starting right handed pitcher, Jordan Warecke put together a gem on the mound last Saturday against Marist College, leading Saint Peter's to the 3-0 victory.
  • It was Warecke's first career shutout win, putting in 8.0 innings of work, with six strikeouts, two walks, and only allowing two hits against 28 batters faced.
  • The eight innings and six strikeouts were both single-game career-highs for him.
  • Additionally, he and the Peacock defense produced 1-2-3 innings in six out of the eight innings that he pitched.
Clean Sheet
  • With the addition of Saturday's 3-0 shutout win over Marist coupled with the 5-0 win over Niagara in the season opener, Saint Peter's now has two clean sheet wins during the 2021 stanza.
  • The two shutout wins are the most by the program in almost a decade, having last held two or more opponents run-less during 2012, when that lineup produced four shutout wins.
Up Next
  • The Peacocks hit the road for the first time this weekend, when the unit visits Siena College.
  • First Pitch will be at 12pm and 3pm on both Saturday April 24 and Sunday, April 25.
