Women’s Basketball Blows Out Delaware State Saturday

DOVER, D.E. – The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team beat the Delaware State Lady Hornets by a score of 77-50 Saturday afternoon in Memorial Hall, fueled by a total team effort. Graduate guard Kendrea Williams led the team with 16 points, as every member of the team registered at least one minute of playing time.

Junior center Kassondra Brown once again scored the first basket of the game for the Peacocks, which is becoming a regular occurence. She would finish the quarter with six points. Williams and senior guard Kourtney Crane helped Brown in the scoring column in the first, as they each scored five points and hit one three in the quarter.

It was a slow start to the second quarter for the Peacocks as they were unable to register a point for the first three minutes of the quarter. They did play tough defense during that stretch, highlighted by a block from senior guard Binta Salawu. The Hornets were able to cut their deficit to two with just over five minutes left in the half, but the Peacocks went on a 12-5 run to close out the quarter, capped off by a bucket from sophomore forward Victoria Ikenasio. The Peacocks led 37-28 at the break.

Saint Peter's put the hammer down in the third quarter, outscoring Delaware State 24-11, allowing them to pull away. The trio of Brown, Williams, and Crane carried the load, as they combined to score the first 17 points of the second half for the Peacocks, which was part of a 17-8 extended run. Saint Peter's would lead 61-39 heading into the fourth.

Sophomore guard Sky Castro took over in the fourth. She grabbed rebound after rebound and made a couple of tough buckets to help the Peacocks maintain their large lead over the Hornets, which resulted in the 77-50 final score. This was the Peacocks second win of the season, which ended a losing streak of three straight games. This was also the Peacocks first road win of the season.
