Women’s Basketball Celebrates Senior Day As They Host Coppin State on Saturday

Angel Giving Tree Toy Drive
In partnership with Saint Peter's Campus Ministry and The Jersey City Fire Department, Saint Peter's Athletics presents the Angel Giving Tree Toy Drive. Fans are encouraged to bring gifts to the game, which will be donated to those in need. All fans that bring an unopened, new toy/gift will receive a complimentary ticket to the game!
 

Spectator Policy

  • All guests ages 12 and older must provide proof of a completed series of World Health Organization (WHO)-approved COVID-19 vaccination.
    • PLEASE NOTE: Full vaccination is achieved two weeks following a person's second dose of a two-dose vaccine series such as Pfizer and Moderna, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine such as Johnson & Johnson.
  • Masks are required at all events inside the Yanitelli Center regardless of vaccination status.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination may be demonstrated by displaying a photo or hard copy of a CDC vaccination card, NJ DOCKET app, New York State Excelsior App, or an official vaccination record. We ask that you have such proof readily available prior to arriving at the venue.
  • Anyone 18 years or older must also present an appropriate ID with proof of vaccination, which must contain the name of the individual, and a photo of the individual or the individual's date of birth. Examples of acceptable forms of identification include but are not limited to: a driver's license, non-driver government ID card, passport and/or school or work-issued ID card.


Tip-Off 

  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team is set to host Coppin State in Run Baby Run Arena Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
  • The Peacocks will be honoring four seniors, which include guard Tyara McQueen, guard Nickelle O'Neil, guard Binta Salawu, and guard Kendrea Williams.
  • The Peacocks are coming off of a 77-50 win at Delaware State this past Saturday, their largest win of the season.
  • Williams dropped a team high 16 points and added two steals in the win.

Top Performers This Season

  • Brown has been a big factor for the Peacocks this season. She leads the team in minutes per game (30.0), scoring (14.0), rebounds per game (9.0), steals (18), assists (15), and blocks (2). 
  • Senior guard Kourtney Crane built off her season best game against Morgan State with a solid showing against Delaware State. She scored 12 points and added three assists.
  • Williams is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. She leads the MAAC in free-throw percentage at 86.2%.
  • Salawu and O'Neil have been defensive stalwarts for the Peacocks this season. Salawu has recorded 15 steals on the season, which is second best on the team. She also recorded a block last time out, her first of the season. O'Neil has nine steals this season.

Long Time Coming

  • The Peacocks beat Delaware State by 27 last game, the biggest margin of victory by a Peacock team since November 17, 2018, when they beat LIU Brooklyn 86-59.
  • The Peacocks ended their three game losing streak with the win over the Hornets.
  • Saint Peter's is 7-7 in the last two seasons following a win.

Close Calls

  • Despite losing five games on the season, the Peacocks have shown great fight in those games, rarely going away.
  • In the opening matchup with Rutgers, the Peacocks trailed by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, and fought back to get it to within five in that same quarter.
  • Against Howard last Sunday, Saint Peter's trailed by as many as 13 points in the fourth, but were able to shave the deficit to six in that same quarter.
  • Against NJIT last time out, the Peacocks trailed by as many as 16 before getting the NJIT lead down to just four points in the fourth quarter.
  • In the matchup with Morgan State, the two teams were neck and neck the whole way, as neither team possessed more than an eight point lead. The Lady Bears pulled away late.

Up Next

  • The Peacocks are back in action on Friday, December 17, as they open up their 2021-22 MAAC conference slate by visiting Niagara on the first leg of their Buffalo road trip. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
