Charlee Cordts had a fantastic afternoon after recording a career-high 18 digs and two aces, but the Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team could not overcome Siena in a straight-set setback at the UHY Center.
The Saints took the all-important opening set by a two-point (25-23) margin, using a 9-2 run to pull away early and then withstanding a late Peacock rally that leveled the score at 20-20 before ultimately winning the set.
The Saints never trailed in the second frame, leading by as many as 10 and then holding off a 7-2 Peacocks run on the way to a six-point (25-19) win. In what was ultimately the final stanza, Saint Peter's had leads at 9-8 and 10-9, but the Saints won 9-of-12 points to take an 18-12 lead and ultimately would take the frame by four (25-21).
Top Peacock Performers
- One game after classmate Lily Barnhill had her best day in a Peacock uniform, Cordts certainly shined on Saturday, leading the way with a match-best 18 digs while posting a pair of aces.
- Senior Alanis Alvarado was the most potent attacker with eight kills for the Peacocks while sharing the team lead in total blocks (3) with rookie Suzzanne Bigelow.
- Graduate student setter Wildalys Soto, one match after posting nearly 40 helpers, led the way with 21 assists on Saturday. She also added 10 digs.
Tale of the Tape
- Siena finished with a 58.0-40.0 edge in points and a 46-30 advantage in kills.
- Siena hit .223 on the afternoon (46k, 19e, 121a) compared to a .079 clip for the Peacocks (30k, 21e, 114a).
- Siena servers held a 5-4 edge in aces and also a 7-6 advantage in total blocks.
- Digs were also in favor of the Saints at 58-48, as were assist (43-26).
