POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior
Angeleyshka Curbelo had an all-around strong afternoon after leading the Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team in kills, points and total blocks, but Marist took the two schools' Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) showdown in straight sets at McCann Arena.
Marist won the opening frame by a 25-11 margin, but the final two sets were much more tightly contested. Saint Peter's staved off three straight set points before the Red Foxes ultimately claimed the second stanza (25-17), and then had early leads in the third frame and was within one (9-8) after a kill by sophomore
Skylee Nelson.
Marist, however, would use a 9-1 run to take control of the set, but the Peacocks didn't go quietly, winning six of the next eight points to get within five (20-15). The Red Foxes would yield only three more points the rest of the way before closing out the final stanza with a 25-18 win.
