NEW ROCHELLE, NY- The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team beat Iona College by a score of 1-0 after double OT on Saturday. Sophomore forward Conlan Paventi scored the winner in double OT on an assist from senior forward Matt Hoyt.
Game Notes:
- The Gaels forced junior goalkeeper Herman Wulff into action early, as he was forced to make a save in the second minute.
- Senior midfielder Jamie Davis had a free kick from about 20 yards out in the eighth minute that sailed high.
- The Peacocks were unable to register a shot on goal in the first half. The score remained tied at 0-0 at the break.
- Graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho, who subbed in at halftime, made saves in the 67th and 68th minutes to keep the score tied.
- Badenes Mecho made another save in the 82nd minute to keep the score tied after regulation. The Peacocks had no shots in the second half.
- Badenes Mecho was forced into action again in the 94th minute, making another stop. The score would head to double overtime tied at zero.
- Hoyt was able to sneak behind the defense and stay onsides on a play in the 107th minute. He dribbled all the way down the field and squared a pass to Paventi who buried the ball into the open net.
Inside the Numbers:
- With the Peacocks win and a Manhattan loss, the Peacocks have clinched a spot in the MAAC tournament. They can finish no lower than the sixth seed. Wednesday's results will determine the final standings.
- Paventi's goal was his second of the season and his career. It's his first career game winning goal.
- Hoyt's assist was his second of the season and the sixth of his career.
- Saint Peter's registered three shots. Only one was on target, Paventi's goal.
- Graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho made four saves.
- Junior goalkeeper Herman Wulff made two saves.
- Freshman midfielder Alex Costa was issued a yellow card.

- Tactically I thought we played a very disciplined game. We came with a game plan. There were some really hard working individual performances from the first whistle through overtime that allowed the moment of quality to win us the game.
- It's a really tough place to come and they have some really talented attacking players so to get a clean sheet and the three points at this stage of the season is vital.
