RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Freshman outside hitter
Lily Barnhill had a career day and was one of two Peacocks in double-digit kill figures, but the Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss at Manhattan on Wednesday at Draddy Gymnasium.
The first two sets were decided by the slimmest of margins and by identical 26-24 scores that the Jaspers both claimed; Saint Peter's extended the match to a fourth stanza with a 25-22 win in the third, but the hosts closed it out with a 25-18 decision in the final set.
Top Peacock Performers
- Barnhill had herself a night in Riverdale, setting new single-match highs in kills (11), points (11.5) and total blocks (1).
- The same could be said for sophomore outside hitter Skylee Nelson, who registered double-digit kills (10) for the first time in her young career. She also added an assist and a career-best 10 points on the night.
- Graduate student setter Wildalys Soto finished with 38 assists, her second-highest single-game figure on the year; she was also impressive offensively with a season-best six kills and seven points. She hit .357 for the night.
- Sophomore libero Alwen Pila turned in her finest performance as a Peacock, posting a new single-match high watermark with 29 digs on Wednesday.
Tale of the Tape
- Manhattan maintained a minor edge in total points (65.0-63.0), but Saint Peter's outgained the Jaspers in kills (56-50) and assist (52-46).
- The Jaspers held a slight edge in hitting percentage at .189 for the night compared to a .137 clip for Saint Peter's; the Peacocks' best set was the second, when they converted at 23.7 percent of their attack attempts.
- Jasper servers held a 7-5 edge in aces and also an 8-2 advantage in total blocks.
- Saint Peter's finished with a comfortable 75-64 lead in digs.
