Rivera Reaches 100 Career Blocks Milestone; Rider Outlasts Women’s Volleyball Saturday

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Senior Stephanie Rivera etched her name in the program record books after eclipsing 100 career blocks, as the Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to Rider in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Saturday at Run Baby Run Arena.

Set Summaries

  • The visiting Broncs built an early eight-point lead in the opening set before the Peacocks cut the deficit to three (16-13), but Rider closed out the set on a 9-4 run to take the opening stanza.
  • The second set was the turning point, as Saint Peter's had a 9-3 lead in the early goings and maintained that advantage through the 15-11 mark, but Rider ripped off five in a row to grab its first edge since the fifth point (3-2). From there, a back-and-forth remainder of the frame ensued, one that saw Saint Peter's rally to extend the set past regulation, but the Broncs won back-to-back points to take a crucial 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The visitors never trailed in the decisive third set, eventually claiming the match in straight sets by means of a 25-14 win in the final frame.

  • On the offensive end, Curbelo paced all Peacock hitters with nine kills, while graduate student Wildalys Soto (2) and senior Alanis Alvarado (1) combined for three service aces.
