The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball program returns home to kick off a pair of two matches in a three-day span when it welcomes the University of New Hampshire to Jersey City on Thursday (Oct. 21). First serve from Run Baby Run Arena is set for 7 p.m.
Five Things to Know
- The Peacocks are looking to get back in the win column after two more hard-fought matches over the weekend in Western New York. In Saturday's weekend opener at Canisius, Saint Peter's took the first set and had a chance to extend the match to a decisive fifth frame before ultimately falling, 3-1. Niagara would pull out a sweep in Sunday's weekend finale.
- Senior Alanis Alvarado had a strong weekend (and week, including last Wednesday's match at Iona) on both ends of the floor; she led the team with 27 total kills, with 16 coming in Wednesday's double-double performance at Iona that also featured 13 digs.
- On the season, Alvarado continues to pace the Peacocks offensively with team-high set averages in kills (2.87) and points (3.16), while her hitting percentage ranks fourth on the team (.128). She ranks in the top-10 in the MAAC in in both kills/set and total points.
- Graduate student Wildalys Soto's 6.95 assists/set average is by far most on the team and ranks sixth in the MAAC, while defensively sophomore Alwen Pila leads the group averaging 3.61 digs/set (10th/MAAC) and ranks second on the team among those with 100+ receptions with a .930 reception percentage. Her 0.30 aces/match average ranks 10th in the league.
- On the block, rookie Suzzanne Bigelow is up to 43.0 blocks on the season, and her 0.81 blocks/set average is good for 10th in the MAAC.
