The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball program heads to Western New York for its annual two-match swing against fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members Canisius and Niagara. The Peacocks take on the Golden Griffins on Saturday (Oct. 16) before doing battle against the Purple Eagles the following day. Both matches are set for 12 p.m. starts.
Five Things to Know
- The Peacocks continue to show resiliency, as they have over the entirety of the month of October, with another valiant effort in Wednesday's mid-week clash at Iona. Saint Peter's had a chance to take a 2-1 sets lead in that matchup before ultimately conceding the pivotal third set en route to a four-set defeat.
- Senior Alanis Alvarado had another double-double thanks to a team-leading 16 kills and 13 digs, while rookie Charlee Cordts came through with a team-high 16 digs in a valiant effort for the Peacocks in that Wednesday affair.
- On the season, Alvarado continues to pace the Peacocks offensively with team-high set averages in kills (2.89) and points (3.18), while her hitting percentage ranks third on the team (.135). She ranks in the top-10 in the MAAC in in both kills/set and total points.
- Graduate student Wildalys Soto's 6.73 assists/set average is by far most on the team and ranks fifth in the MAAC, while defensively sophomore Alwen Pila leads the group averaging 3.74 digs/set (10th/MAAC) and with 280 receptions. Her 0.34 aces/match average ranks eighth in the league.
- On the block, rookie Suzzanne Bigelow is up to 43.0 blocks on the season, and her 0.81 blocks/set average is good for ninth in the MAAC.
