St. John’s Defeats Baseball

QUEENS, NY – The Saint Peter's baseball team lost Tuesday's contest to St. John's. The Peacocks suffered a 21-1 defeat.

How it Happened
  • Saint Peter's fell behind the eightball early, giving up six runs in the game's opening inning.
  • The Peacocks only run on the day came in the top of the second by way of a sacrifice fly from Joey Vitiello that advanced Nick Sciubba from third to home.
  • St. John's added two more runs in the second, extending its lead over Saint Peter's to 8-1.
  • The score remained the same through three innings, but the Red Storm then scored at least two runs in every inning over the final five innings to close the game.

Inside the Numbers
  • Saint Peter's had its worst outing of the season, allowing its most runs and largest scoring margin.
  • Offensively, the Peacocks made two hits. One coming from Vitiello and the other by Trent Koerner.
  • Right-handed Jean Candelaria (0-2) received the decision.

Coach's Quotes – Lou Proietti
  • "The score reflects our effort today. It's unfortunate we didn't come prepared to play. We need our leaders to step up and challenge some guys to be better."

On Deck
  • Saint Peter's will travel to Dover, Delaware this weekend for a four-game piece with Delaware State.
  • The Peacocks and Hornets will meet from Friday through Sunday.
