Opening Word:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will make their way to Connecticut for a contest against defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion, Quinnipiac on Thursday (Feb. 27) at 6 p.m.
  • The Peacocks are coming off of a 71-64 defeat in a road game against Siena on Feb. 22.
  • Redshirt junior Taiah Thornton led the Peacocks in scoring, finishing with 22 points. She also went 6-for-9 from the field and hit all eight of her foul shots from the free throw line.
  • Redshirt juniors Gabrielle Harris and Kendrea Williams also tacked on double-digit performances against the Saints, scoring 13 points apiece in the affair.
Series with the Bobcats:
  • Thursday's tip off will be the second of the season between Saint Peter's and Quinnipiac as the Peacock's head into the game with an overall record of 0-11 against the Bobcats.
  • In the first matchup this season, Saint Peter's fell to a 91-64 loss against Quinnipiac after a tough battle in Jersey City on Jan 30.
  • Briyanah Richardson led the team with 16 points while going 7-for-10 from the field and grabbing three rebounds. Richardson and Thornton finished shooting 50 percent from the field.
  • The Peacocks are seeking to take home their first victory ever in Hamden on February 27.
From Then Till Now:
  • As the end of the regular season approaches, the improvement of the Peacocks from 2018-19 to this year has been impressive to say the least.
  • Through 26 games on the season, the Peacocks are second in the MAAC in scoring, averaging 70.6 points per game, compared to an eighth place finish last year at 56.3 per game.
  • Additionally, Saint Peter's now sits atop the MAAC rankings in free-throw percentage, shooting a league-leading 79.8 percent from the line compared to 70.6 percent last year and a fifth-place finish.
  • The Peacocks have also been moving the ball more this season, currently maintaining 13.2 assists per game while the squad finished with 10.6 helpers per game last year.
  • Perhaps one of the most impressive improvements for the Peacocks comes from beyond the arc, as Saint Peter's is second in the MAAC this season in three-pointers with 188 and 7.2 per game, while last season the team finished 30 games with 160 triples and 5.3 per game.

  • The Peacocks will have a week of rest before heading to Lawrenceville, New Jersey for a rematch with second place Rider on Thursday, March 5 for a 7 p.m. start.
