Baseball Suffers Setback at FDU

Peacocks fell 13-1 at FDU on Wednesday

TEANECK, NJ – The Saint Peter's baseball team allowed 10 runs in the first inning, leading to a 13-1 setback at the hands of in-state rival Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • The Knights scored three runs in the opening inning before the Peacocks could record an out.
  • Following a pitching change and with two down, Saint Peter's made two crucial fielding errors which ultimately led to seven additional runs, putting the team in a 10-run whole.
  • Over the next three innings, the Peacocks would only pick up two total hits, leaving both runners stranded and allowing one additional run defensively, to trail 11-0 heading into the fifth.
  • In the top of the fifth with two outs, Andrew Veit singled to right center for his first career hit. Ensuing walks by Nick Sciubba, Andrew Connor, and Hunter Mason would bring in the Peacocks lone run of the day.
  • FDU added two more runs in the bottom half of the frame, putting Saint Peter's in a 13-1 whole, which also ended as the final score line.

Inside the Numbers
  • Mason was the most productive Peacock offensively, going 1-for-2 with two walks and one RBI.
  • Chris Marquart led the team in hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate on the day.
  • Starting left-handed pitcher Christain Coombes received the pitching decision in the defeat.

Coach's Quotes – Lou Proietti
  • "We did not come ready to play today."
  • "It's unfortunate we gave away an opportunity to compete and continue to take strides in the right direction."
  • "You have to earn wins at this level and we did not do that today."
  • "Look forward to bouncing back this weekend."

On Deck
  • The Peacocks travels to Kentucky for a four-game weekend series at Murray State from Feb. 21-23.
