First Pitch
- The Saint Peter's University baseball team opens the 2020 ledger this weekend in the state of Georgia.
- The Peacocks will meet Georgia Tech (Feb. 14) in Atlanta, Kennesaw State (Feb. 15) in Kennesaw, and Georgia State (Feb. 16) back in Atlanta, over the weekend.
- Saint Peter's comes into the new year off of its best campaign since the 2016 season, winning more games in 2019 than 2017 and 2018 combined.
- This will be the third consecutive year the team opens the new season on the road.
- The program is seeking its first season opening win since 2016, when that Peacock team knocked off Maryland Eastern Shore, 10-8 during a four-game series in Richmond, VA.
Peacocks vs. the Peach State
- Saint Peter's will be playing and meeting a team from the Peach State for the 13th time.
- The Peacocks are an even 6-6 all-time against teams from Georgia.
- Of the three opponents Saint Peter's will face during the weekend trip, Kennesaw St. is the only previously played team.
- Saturday's game with Kennesaw St. will be just the second meeting ever, while the contests against Georgia Tech and Georgia St. will be the first games between Saint Peter's and both schools all-time.
- The lone match between the Peacocks and Owls occurred on Feb. 24, 2006 in Kennesaw, GA, where the Peacocks fell 5-4.
- The only other Georgia school that Saint Peter's has done battle with is Savannah State, posting a 6-5 all-time record against the school.
Homecoming
- Senior Ian Concevitch, makes his return to his home state of Georgia when the Peacocks arrive in Atlanta.
- Concevitch is a native of Roswell, GA and he spent the past three seasons at Savannah St. prior to his arrival in Jersey City.
- The right-handed pitcher will get the nod in the season-opener at Georgia Tech, making his Peacock debut even more meaningful.
On Deck
- The Peacocks return to New Jersey on Wednesday, Feb. 19 for a single game at Fairleigh Dickinson.
- The team then travels to Kentucky for a four-game weekend series at Murray State from Feb. 21-23.
Returning Peacocks
- The baseball team returns 18 letterwinners from its 2019 squad that produced the programs most wins since 2016.
- Returning position players include Andrew Connor, Luis Garcia, John Gavura, Trent Koerner, Chris Marquart, Hunter Mason, Jesse Matos, Anthony Ramos, Nicholas Sciubba, and Brian Turton.
- Pitchers that return to the lineup are Joe Albunia, Jean Candelaria, Stephen Carbonara, Blake Gonzalez, Bryan Guzman, Dawy Lebron, Chris Pimentel, and Ryan Wappaus.
New to the Squad
New Skipper
- Lou Proietti was named the head coach of the Saint Peter's baseball team in June of 2019, becoming the program's second full-time head coach, bringing over a decade of coaching experience to Jersey City in which he has worked with over 50 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft picks.
- Proietti spent the past four seasons at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts, serving as the Skyhawks Associate Head Coach.
- Prior to Stonehill, Proietti was an assistant at MAAC hOURglass Rival Rider from 2012-15. During his tenure, he was the hitting coach and third base coach, helping lead the Broncs to a pair of regular season MAAC Championships, including a season that broke the school record for most wins in a regular season in 2013. In 2014, he helped Rider third baseman Nick Richter lead the country in stolen bases. Head coach Barry Davis also won the MAAC Coach of the Year award in both 2013 and 2015 with Proietti on the staff.
- Before his time at Rider, Proietti spent the 2009-10 season at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, then acted as hitting coach for the Oneonta Outlaws of the PGCBL (Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League) from 2010-12, and from 2013-2016, he coached the Plymouth Pilgrims in the NECBL (New England Collegiate Baseball League) as hitting coach. He helped 1st round MLB draft pick, Brent Rooker from Mississippi State win the 2015 NECBL MVP award.
- Proietti also spent time working as a teacher and baseball coach at Georgetown Prep School in North Bethesda, Maryland (2011-13) and he served as a hitting instructor at Pitcher's Edge in McLean, Virginia (2012).
- The Hamilton, Ontario native graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2007 and received his master's degree from the university in 2009. Proietti also earned a master's in Organizational Leadership from Rider in 2015. At UMass Amherst, he played shortstop while leading the Minutemen in batting average and stolen bases in 2006. Prior to UMass, Proietti played the 2004 season at Saint Peter's before transferring to Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia for the 2005 season. He helped Potomac State advance to the Junior College World Series, where the team finished 5th nationally.
