Opening Word:
- The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will open the New Year this weekend with a series at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason No. 1 Manhattan.
- The games, which will take place from Jan. 1-2, are both scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
- Prior to the holiday break, the Peacocks concluded non-conference play at FDU on Dec. 22, dropping the contest against the Knights via a 66-60 decision.
- Saint Peter's trailed by as many as 20 points in the exchange and were able to narrow the FDU lead to six in the waning moments, but were unable to secure the victory.
- Redshirt-senior Taiah Thornton paced the Peacocks against the Knights, scoring a season-high 19 points while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
History with the Jaspers:
- The Peacocks and the Jaspers will face off for the 93rd meeting between the two sides on Friday, with the series dating back to Feb. 24, 1979.
- Saint Peter's holds an advantage in the all-time series against Manhattan, with an overall record of 54-38 over its MAAC foe.
- The last clash between the conference opponents came on Feb. 1, 2020, when the Jaspers walked away with a narrow 68-64 victory in Riverdale.
