GAME NOTES

Opening Tip
  • The Saint Peter's men's basketball program begins its longest road stint of the MAAC campaign on Wednesday night (Jan. 15), starting with Fairfield.
  • The Peacocks and Stags tip at 7 p.m. on EPSN+.
  • The three-game road stretch will run for a week and a half, concluding next Friday, Jan. 24 at Rider.
  • After a 2-0 conference start in the opening week of the MAAC slate, Saint Peter's were unvictorious in week two, dropping both contests of the week at Siena and against Canisius.
  • The Peacocks currently hold a 2-2 league record entering the new week --- locked in a four-way tie for fifth place in the standings.
  • Last time out, the team squandered a late lead to Canisius on Sunday afternoon, falling 72-68 at home.
  • The Peacocks failed to score over the final 2:48 of the contest, leading to their second straight conference defeat of the season.
  • Saint Peter's had three-players score in double figures for the first time since the MAAC opener, led by Doug Edert's 13 points; followed by Dallas Watson and Derrick Woods who scored 11 points each.

Things to Know Before We Hit the Road
History with Stags
  • Saint Peter's against Fairfield has been the closest series for the Peacocks compared to any other current MAAC team.
  • The Peacocks lead the all-time series by a slim 59-58 margin, since the 1950-51 season.
  • Saint Peter's has controlled the matchup recently, winning 10 of the last 14 meetings dating back to the 2013-14 campaign, with two of the wins coming at the MAAC tournament.
  • Over the past four battles between the two programs, the home team has been the victor.
Treacherous Travels
  • Since the 2013-14 season, when the conference first moved to a 20-game league schedule, Saint Peter's has struggled on road trips of three or more straight MAAC games.
  • The Peacocks have posted an overall record of 7-13 in these games over the timeframe, and the unit has only posted a winning series once, back in 2016 when the team went 2-1.
  • Last season, the team had a four-game road stint from late January through early February in which the team went 1-3, falling in three straight games after a win at Niagara (defeats came against Quinnipiac, Rider, and Manhattan).

Roller Coaster Conference Start
  • The MAAC season has been nothing short of a surprise through the first quarter of the league ledger.
  • For the Peacocks, the team shocked four-time defending champion Iona at the buzzer and throttled Marist by 26 points, leading to a 2-0 start --- its first since 2015-16.
  • Following the hot start, the team lost a heartbreaker at Siena (who is undefeated on the season at home) and dropped a close contest to Canisius (who was winless in the MAAC before the win).
  • Of the four conference games played so far, three have been within one possession in the waning moments.

Next Up
  • Saint Peter's will remain in Connecticut during its current road tour, visiting Hamden next for a meeting with currently unbeaten Quinnipiac.
  • The Peacocks and Bobcats will meet on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 4:30 p.m.
