No. 22 Rutgers Edges Men’s Soccer, 2-1, Tuesday

Peacocks’ second half burst not enough to topple No. 22 Scarlet Knights

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team wrapped up its non-conference play on Tuesday night, dropping a closely contested, 2-1 decision on the road against nationally ranked Rutgers. Junior midfielder Jordan Jowers notched the lone goal for the Peacocks with an early second-half tally.

Game Notes
  • Rutgers midfielder Jackson Temple recorded the first score of the day for either side, netting a give-and-go with teammate Pable Avila in the 22nd minute.
  • Avila would score the Scarlet Knights' second goal of the night at the 50 minute mark, burying a feed from Thomas DeVizio from the outside.
  • The Peacocks responded immediately, with Jowers sinking a shot off from the top of the box into the upper-right corner of the net after an assist from Dominic Laws less than a minute later.
  • That, however, was the last time either side would find the twine, as the Scarlet Knights held off a valiant comeback attempt by the Peacocks.
