Baseball Scores Season-Best 11 Runs in Defeat against NJIT

The Peacocks squandered a lead and suffered an 18-11 defeat

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Peacocks squandered a nine-run lead, resulting in an 18-11 defeat at the hands of NJIT on Tuesday in out of conference play.
 
Game Notes
  • Saint Peter's runs came in early, while NJIT's runs came later in the contest.
  • Andrew Connor opened the game with a double to center and Edwin Feliciano got on by a walk.
  • Hunter Mason then stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run homer to left field to give the Peacocks a 3-0 lead.
  • Peter Ferony batted next, hitting a double to left field, which then allowed Jared Paladino to hit the RBI single to center that would put Saint Peter's up 4-0 in the first.
  • Mason kept the hot hand going with an RBI single that got him all the way to third by way of a throwing error by the pitcher in the second inning.
  • Fereony connected next on a sacrifice fly to the outfield so Mason could tag up and score the Peacock's sixth run of the day.
  • That lead would extend to 9-0 in the third for Saint Peter's.
  • Feliciano drove in two runs with a double to left center, clearing the bases with Connor and Trent Koerner.
  • Mason continued his tear, this time hitting a single to bring home Feliciano and put Saint Peter's ahead 9-0.
  • NJIT eventually scored two runs in the fourth to fall behind 9-2.
  • The scored remained at 9-2 until the seventh inning when Mason hit a RBI double for one run and scored the next run himself to give the Peacocks an 11-2 lead.
  • NJIT went for seven runs on five hits in the seventh and nine runs from seven hits in the eighth to take an 18-11 lead.
  • The Peacocks went three up and three down in the ninth to close out the game.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Mason was 4-for-5 at the plate with six RBIs, three runs, and a home run.
  • Mason was also a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
  • Following Mason was the trio of Feliciano, Paladino, and Koerner who all recorded two hits.
  • Feliciano posted four runs scored and added two RBIs.
  • Ferony batted in two runs and scored an additional run.
  • The 11 runs were the most runs for Saint Peter's since a 13-11 loss to Rider on May 20, 2016.
  • The team also set season best marks in RBIs (11) and walks (10).

  • The Peacocks hit the road for a weekend MAAC series at Manhattan on Saturday and Sunday, May 11-12.
