Baseball Splits Sunday’s Doubleheader with Fairleigh Dickinson

The Peacocks won 5-1 and lost 9-1 against the Knights

TEANECK, NJ – Saint Peter's baseball had its best hitting game in over five years, which led to a 5-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the first of two games on Sunday. The Peacocks dropped the second contest, 9-1, to split the day's doubleheader.
 
Game 1 Notes
  • Through the first three innings, Saint Peter's limited FDU to just three hits and no runs.
  • All five of the Peacock runs would be scored between the third and fifth innings.
  • Hunter Mason doubled to center field for two RBIs in the bottom of the third to get the Peacocks scoring started.
  • Peter Ferony came to the plate next and hit a RBI double to put the Peacocks ahead 3-0.
  • FDU scored its only run of the game in the top of the fourth.
  • Saint Peter's also added a run in the inning when Andrew Connor singled to right field, driving home Jared Quintero from third.
  • The Peacocks extended their lead to 5-1 in the fifth after Jared Paladino drove in Ferony with a two-out single.
  • Six outs away from its third victory of the season, Saint Peter's logged a 1-2-3 sixth inning and gave up just one hit in the final inning to secure the 5-1 victory.
 
Game 2 Notes
  • FDU jumped on the Peacocks early with three runs on the first inning.
  • Saint Peter's responded with what would be its only run of the game in the bottom of the first after Paladino hit a single that gave Connor the run.
  • The game stayed deadlocked at 3-1 in favor of the Knights for the next three innings.
  • FDU added four runs in the fifth inning, to extend the lead over Saint Peter's to 7-1.
  • The Knights added two more runs in the seventh to close out the game and earn the 9-1 victory over the Peacocks.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • 8 out of 9 Peacocks recorded at least one hit with 6 out of the 8 posting a multi-hit first game.
  • Connor led Saint Peter's in the opening game by going 3-for-4 at the plate, followed by Edwin Feliciano, Mason, Ferony, Paladino, and Nicholas Sciubba who each had a pair of hits in the win.
  • Mason was the team leader with two RBIs while Connor, Ferony, and Paladino all batted in one run each.
  • The Peacocks connected on a season-best 15 hits in the win.
  • The 15 hits were the most in a single game by Saint Peter's since April 6, 2014.
  • Steve Epstein (1-0) earned his first complete game win of the season, going 7.0 innings and striking out four.
  • The victory in the first game for Saint Peter's was the programs first out of conference win in over three years, having last won a non-conference game on April 19, 2016 against St. John's.

  • Saint Peter's will conclude the eight-game out of conference stretch with a two home games next week.
  • On Tuesday, April 30 the Peacocks will host Seton Hall at 3:30 p.m.
