Men’s Basketball Suffers hOURglass Loss to Rider on Sunday

The Peacocks dropped their seventh straight contest falling to Rider 71-65

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team fell to hOURglass Rival Rider, 71-65 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Sunday afternoon. The loss was the seventh straight for the Peacocks, as the team's conference record drops to 3-10 on the season.
 
Game Notes
  • After falling behind 5-0, KC Ndefo slammed in a one-handed dunk and Quinn Taylor made a layup to put Saint Peter's (6-19, 3-10) behind Rider (14-13, 9-6) by one point.
  • The Peacocks remained down by one point until Rider extended its lead to 18-12 at the 12:50 mark.
  • Behind six points from Davauhnte Turner, Saint Peter's went on a 10-0 run to give the team their first lead of the game, 22-18 with just over 8 minutes to play in the half.
  • The game would tie three times before the break and the Peacocks would go into the half trailing 31-28.
  • Rider opened the half with eight straight points, putting the Peacocks down by double-digits.
  • The Peacocks cut into the deficit when Derrick Woods and Ndefo made consecutive layups and Ndefo added a free throw, cutting the score to 39-33.
  • Over the next five minutes, Rider outscored Saint Peter's 14-6, extending their lead back up to double-figures.
  • Rider maintained the double-digit lead over the Peacocks until there was less than a minute remaining when the Peacocks cut into the score to bring the game to a 71-65 final.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Turner scored a team-high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line.
  • Taylor finished the game with 12 points, Dixon added 10 points, and Ndefo scored nine points.
  • Tyere Marshall scored a game-high 25 points for Rider in the win.
