Second Half Efforts Not Enough as Men’s Basketball Falls to Siena

The Peacocks suffered a 72-62 defeat to the Saints on Tuesday night

ALBANY, NY – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team fell to the Siena Saints, 72-62 on Tuesday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. Despite the Peacocks outscoring Siena in the second half and shooting over 60 percent from the field and behind the 3-point line in the half, the team still dropped its eighth contest in a row.
 
Game Notes
  • Siena (14-14, 9-6) scored six straight to begin the game, but Saint Peter's (6-20, 3-11) answered outscoring Siena 9-3 over the game's next 6:45 to tie things up at 9-9.
  • The Peacocks' run ended and the team went on a four-minute drought that put Siena back ahead 19-9.
  • Quinn Taylor connected on a layup to end the scoring slump and cut back into the deficit.
  • The Peacocks eventually fell behind 28-13 late in the half, but a quick 6-0 spurt on a Dallas Watson layup and four free throws from Derrick Woods, put Saint Peter's behind 28-19.
  • The half closed out with Saint Peter's down 33-21.
  • Siena hit two straight buckets to open the half, putting the Peacocks down by their largest deficit in the game of 15 points.
  • Saint Peter's would respond but remained down by double-digits until a triple by Davauhnte Turner and a converted 3-point play by KC Ndefo put the Peacocks down by seven, trailing 55-48 with seven to go.
  • Following a pair of Peacock turnovers, Siena went back up by double-figures and kept the 10+ point lead over Saint Peter's until there was just under one minute to play.
  • The Peacocks continued to battle in the game getting within 10 points twice with under one minute to play behind a pair layups from Turner and a Watson 3-point play.
  • Despite the late efforts, free throws kept Siena ahead as the Peacocks fell in the game 72-62.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Turner scored a team-high 16 points connecting on 2-of-4 3-pointers.
  • It was Turner's 19th time leading the team in scoring this season.
  • Taylor and Ndefo both added 12 points.
  • Taylor also grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while Ndefo blocked a team leading three shots and scored his 12 points on an efficient night going 5-6 from the field and 2-2 from the line.
  • Woods pitched in with eight points for the Peacocks.
  • Evan Fisher for Siena led all-scorers with 21 points.
