Peacocks Drop Contest at Iona

The Peacocks dropped their sixth straight contests in the defeat

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team fell to the Iona Gaels on Friday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. The loss was the sixth straight for the Peacocks, dropping the contest 62-46.
 
Game Notes
  • Saint Peter's (6-18, 3-9) jumped out to an early 13-7 lead over Iona (10-15, 8-6) behind Samuel Idowu and Davauhnte Turner each scoring five points with both connecting on a layup and a 3-pointer.
  • The Peacocks held Iona scoreless for over three minutes during the early run.
  • Seven straight points by Iona would put the Peacocks behind for the first time in the game when they trailed 14-13.
  • The Gaels would hold the lead for the remainder of the half but the Peacocks stayed within two possessions, never falling behind by more than five points, going into the half behind 27-22.
  • Manny Dixon scored five straight points and Idowu put home a layup to tie the game at 29-29 to open the second half.
  • After the final tie of the night, Iona went on a 14-0 surge that put the Peacocks behind 43-29 over the next six minutes.
  • The Peacocks never got within single-digits following the run, falling to the Gaels 62-46.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Idowu scored a Peacock best, 12 points and rejected five shots in the game, adding to his MAAC leading blocked shots per game average.
  • Turner followed Idowu with 11 points.
  • Dixon added seven points and Quinn Taylor scored six points and grabbed a team leading nine rebounds.
  • E.J. Crawford and Asante Gist both scored 17 points for Iona in the contest.
