How It Happened
- It was all DSU at the onset on Saturday, as the Peacocks found themselves behind by a 15-0 margin just under three minutes into the game.
- The Peacocks' first eight points of the game were scored by Harris, with her first basket coming off a short tear drop shot with just over six minutes left in the first quarter.
- Zoe Pero got her first bucket of the day off an assist from Harris toward the end of the first quarter.
- Richardson hit back-to-back shots late in the first quarter, including a pivotal triple to make it a three-point affair. By the end of the first quarter, Saint Peter's had managed to cut the once-15-point deficit to just seven (24-17).
- Senior Sammy Lochner scored her first points of the season on a smooth fadeaway jumper from about eight feet out midway through the second quarter.
- Yamel Abreu put in her first points of the day after beating her defender to the left and driving hard for the successful layup. Shortly after, Richardson hit her second triple of the game with just under two minutes to go in the first half followed by a triple from Lochner on the following offensive possession. By the midpoint, the Peacocks were within 13 points (44-31).
- Toward the start of the third quarter, Kendrea Williams was sent to the line after being fouled on an attempted three-pointer from the corner and hit one of the subsequent free throws.
- Harris broke the 10-point mark at the beginning of the second half, hitting a short jumper from inside the paint.
- Wil'lisha Jackson found her first bucket of the day on a strong midrange jumper from about 14 feet out toward the midway point of the third quarter.
- Phylina Holmes was able to bring some much-needed points late in the quarter off a nice move in the post, putting in the contested layup.
- Holmes was then able to convert the three-point play after drawing a foul on a rebound-layup combination with just over two minutes to go in the third quarter.
- Pero would open the scoring for Saint Peter's in the final 10 minutes of play, sinking a layup off a feed from Richardson.
- Taiah Thornton was able to score her first points of the day on a layup off a fast break following the defensive rebound from Holmes.
Inside The Numbers:
- The 23-point defeat is the largest negative margin for the Peacocks this season, and the game marks the first time the team has not scored more than 70 points in a game.
- In addition to leading the team in points along with Richardson, Harris led the Peacocks in assists with four.
- Richardson and Pero secured the highest number of rebounds for the Peacocks in their contest, grabbing five boards apiece, while Richardson led the squad in triples with two three-pointers made.
- Thornton led the team in steals, grabbing three from the Hornets on Saturday.
