GAME NOTES
Opening Word:
- The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will travel to nearby Newark on Wednesday, Dec. 4, to face off against NJIT in a 7 p.m. tip.
- The Peacocks hit the road for the fifth time in six games to open up the 2019-20 campaign and also return to action for the first time in eight days after a dramatic win in their home opener against Morgan State last Tuesday (Nov. 26).
- In that contest, a late third-quarter surge from the hosts saw them erase a five-point deficit and then held off a late charge by the visitors in what was eventually a wild finish and a one-point win for the Peacocks.
- For the second time this season, redshirt junior Kendrea Williams led the Peacocks' offensive effort, scoring 17 points while hitting four triples.
- Gabrielle Harris also had a strong showing against the Bears, notching her first double-double of the season, putting in 12 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
Series with the Highlanders:
- Saint Peter's and NJIT will meet for the seventh matchup in the series on Wednesday night, with the Peacocks holding a 4-2 advantage heading into the affair.
- The first contest between the Peacocks and the Highlanders was played on Nov. 28, 2006, when Saint Peter's secured a 67-61 win in Newark.
- The Peacocks will look to extend their win streak to three games after coming out on top in the last two contests between the squads in 2017 and 2018.
- Last year, Saint Peter's defeated NJIT, 70-57, in the team's season opener.
Double-Dipping:
- Harris' double-double was the first by a Peacock this season and the redshirt-junior's first of her career as a Peacock.
- The performance marks the second game this season in which a Peacock has notched a double-double, following Taiah Thornton's 16 points and 11 rebounds in the team's season opener against LIU Brooklyn.
- The game marks the third of Harris' career in which the South River-native has notched a double-double, after recording two during her time with Fairleigh Dickinson Florham during the 2017-18 season.
- Through five games, Harris is averaging a team-high 15.4 points per game while also leading the team in rebounds with 6.4 per game.
Up Next:
- The Peacocks will travel south for their final road game in non-conference play to face off against Delaware State on Saturday, Dec. 6, for a 2 p.m. start.
