Opening Word:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will welcome the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Sunday, Dec. 29 for a 1 p.m. tip in Jersey City.
  • The contest marks the final non-conference game for the Peacocks in the 2019-20 season, and the last game of the calendar year brefore the calendar flips to 2020.
  • The Peacocks are coming off of a narrow 77-71 defeat against NEC opponent Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 21 despite being short-staffed with only seven players dressing due to injuries throughout the roster.
  • Redshirt junior Taiah Thornton led the squad's offensive effort with 19 points while also grabbing a team-high five steals against the Knights.
  • Sophomore Wil'lisha Jackson had a strong performance against FDU, recording a season-high six rebounds and finishing with 10 points on the day.
History with the Mountain Hawks: 
  • The Peacocks and the Mountain Hawks will meet on the court for the seventh time in the series on Sunday.
  • Saint Peter's will be looking for its first win against Lehigh, as the Mountain Hawks have taken all six contests since the two squads first met on Dec. 7, 2010.
  • Sunday's game will be the first contest between the two squads in over four years, following the last matchup between the Peacocks and the Mountain Hawks on Nov. 25, 2015, when Lehigh took a 74-42 victory at home.
  • This weekend's game will be the first time that head coach Marc Mitchell will be facing Lehigh since taking the lead role with the team in 2018.
Helping Hands: 
  • Through eight games, the Peacocks rank second in the MAAC in assists per game with 13.8, trailing only the Marist Red Foxes who maintain the top spot with 16.8.
  • Individually, sophomore Briyanah Richardson is also second in the league in assists, averaging 4.4 per game.
  • Richardson has finished with five or more assists in three games this season, including a season-high eight against FDU on Dec. 21.
  • Junior Yamel Abreu has also been a major contributor in assists for the Peacocks, as she is tied for 11th in the MAAC with 2.9 per game.
Up Next:
  • The Peacocks will head north to Poughkeepsie next weekend to begin MAAC play against Marist on Saturday, Jan. 4, in a 7 p.m. matchup.
