Opening Word: 
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will travel to Brooklyn, New York to face LIU on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to begin its 2019-20 regular season.
  • The opening tip is scheduled to go up at 7:00 p.m.
  • Head coach Marc Mitchell enters his second season at the helm for the Peacocks, looking to improve on last season's success.
Scout vs. LIU: 
  • The Sharks enter their first season, following a merger between the LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post branches earlier this year.
  • Against the previous LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, Saint Peter's held a 7-2 record, winning their previous matchup in 2018 by a margin of 86-59.
  • During the 2018 meeting, five Peacocks scored in double digits, including the now senior duo of Zoe Pero (19) and Sammy Lochner (13) and then true freshman Briyanah Richardson (13).
2019 Peacocks: 
  • The Peacocks welcome back seven players from last season.
  • Briyanah Richardson (New Brunswick, NJ/Matawan Regional) returns for her sophomore year following an impressive rookie campaign which ended in a unanimous All-MAAC Rookie Team selection. The rising sophomore was one of the conference's top rookie scorers from a year ago after scoring in double-digits in 18 out of 29 games, including a season-high 39 points against Fairfield. The sophomore averaged 12.9 points per game, while leading the team in points (386) assists (99).
  • Zoe Pero (Secaucus, NJ/Saint John Vianney) is back for her senior year as she prepares to lead the Peacocks into the new decade. As a junior, Pero was one of five players on the team to appear in all 30 games, while starting in 25 of them. The Secaucus-native led the team in rebounds and blocks last year, tallying 193 and 41, respectively. Pero also had the second-most points on the team last season with 377. 
  • Wil'lisha Jackson (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) and Cinnamon Dockery (New York, NY/Murray Bergtraum) round out the returning starters for the Peacocks this year. Each of the sophomores appeared in all 30 games last year while getting the starting nod in 26 of them. Jackson and Dockery sat second and third in rebounds during their rookie seasons las year, recording 166 and 158, respectively. Additionally, Dockery led the team in steals with 64, while Jackson had the second-highest point total among freshmen on the squad with 202.
  • The final three returners include senior Sammy Lochner (Abington, PA/Abington), and sophomores Tyara McQueen (Rahway, NJ/Roselle Catholic) and Phylina Holmes (Warsaw, NC/James Kenan). During last season, Lochner appeared in all 30 games for Saint Peter's while starting in seven, in which she tallied 3.3 ppg and held the second-highest free throw percentage on the team at .875. McQueen is the final returning player to have had an appearance in all 30 games last year, in which she led the team in field goal percentage and three-point percentage with .425 and .431, respectively. Holmes returns after appearing in five games for the Peacocks during her rookie season, having held a field goal percentage of .286 during her freshman year.
Back in Action:
  • The Peacocks will welcome four players to their ranks in 2019-20, featuring redshirt-juniors Gabrielle Harris, Taiah Thornton and Kendrea Williams alongside junior college transfer Yamel Abreu
  • The trio of Harris, Thornton, and Williams return to the floor after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer regulations; all three return to the hardwood after successful campaigns at FDU Florham during the 2017-18 season. 
  • Abreu arrives in Jersey City after playing two years at Union County College while earning First Team All-American honors at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.
  • During an exhibition game against NYIT on November 2, Williams and Abreu led the team in points with 24 and 19, respectively.
Head Coach Marc Mitchell:
  • Mitchell returns for his second season with the Peacocks after his inaugural season last year.
  • Coach Mitchell enters this season after finishing last year with a record of 6-24, which stood as the team's best finish through the eight previous seasons.
  • Mitchell's coaching saw the Peacocks enjoy a three game win-streak last season, defeating LIU Brooklyn, Lafayette, and Wagner all in succession throughout the month of November.
  • Under Mitchell's lead last season, the Peacocks went on to win five non-conference games, which stands as the best mark by the team since 2007-08.
