JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's Athletics hosted the second annual Peacock Nation Tip-Off Dinner on Wednesday, October 30 at Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City. The evening was an opportunity for Peacock fans, supporters and alumni to meet the 2019-20 men's and women's basketball teams and hear season previews from the two head basketball coaches. Attendees also got to hear the first remarks from newly appointed director of athletics, Rachelle Paul.
Interim Director of Athletics Katie Arcuri opened the evening reflecting on last basketball season while looking ahead to the many exciting things ahead for Peacock basketball. She noted that last season saw new game and season attendance records for both programs, and season ticket sales surpassed department goals. 2019-20 basketball season tickets have already surpassed last year's totals.
Arcuri also noted that all men's and women's home basketball games will be broadcast live on either ESPN3 or ESPN+ thanks to the department's purchase of a first of its kind, Sprinter van mobile production unit. Postseason basketball will be in New Jersey this year with the MAAC Basketball Championships moving to Atlantic City for the first time in 2020. Arcuri noted that Atlantic City provides an exciting destination for our teams and fans this season.
Head men's basketball coach Shaheen Holloway and head women's basketball coach Marc Mitchell each gave a season preview for their respective teams. Both coaches introduced their players and staff individually to the crowd, and discussed what they've been doing in the offseason to prepare for the 2019-20 season.
All funds raised at the Tip-Off Dinner go directly towards supporting Saint Peter's student-athletes, both on and off the playing field.
