Siena Steals Match from Women’s Volleyball

Despite a tightly contested match, Peacocks fell 1-3 to Siena

LOUDONVILLE, NY – In what proved to be a suspenseful duel between the Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team and Siena College of Saturday, ended in a 1-3 (23-25, 26-24, 15-25, 24-26) defeat for the Peacocks.

How it Happened
  • Comebacks were the theme in the match, as both teams put their own version of a rally together at important points in the contest.
  • The first edition of the comeback theme came in the first set by Saint Peter's. Trailing 8-18 midway through the set, the Peacocks orchestrated a 15-6 run spearheaded by six kills from five different players, to cut the deficit to 23-24. A final kill by Siena would clinch the set and put the Peacocks down 0-1 in the match.
  • Saint Peter's continued the theme, this time successfully completing the comeback after falling behind 14-21 late in the second set. The visiting Peacocks put together an impressive 12-3 run, which included a 5-0 run following set point by Siena, to end the set in a 26-24 win; knotting the match at 1-1.
  • Set three was the lone frame to not witness a comeback or lead change with Siena controlling from wire-to-wire on its way to a 25-15 win.
  • The comeback bug would bite the Peacocks in the fourth, as the team attempted to push the match to five sets. Holding a 22-17 lead late, Saint Peter's was outscored 1-6, allowing Siena to tie the match at 23-23. A service error would give the Peacocks set point, but the Saints scored three straight points to seal the 26-24 victory.
