Women’s Volleyball Drops Four-Setter at Marist

Peacocks took the first set before dropping three straight to Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – For the third consecutive match this week, the Saint Peter's women's volleyball team dropped a four setter, falling on Sunday to Marist College, 1-3 (25-23, 23-25, 15-25, 16-25) on the road. The defeat for the Peacocks was the 13th straight setback for the team.

Match Notes
  • The Peacocks trailed 10-17 in the opening set, but an offensive explosion by the Peacock attack propelled the team to a 15-6 run and 25-23 set win. Of the 15 final points for Saint Peter's, seven came from kills, with Alanis Alvarado posting four kills to lead the team.
  • The second set was a barn burner. The two teams battled to nine ties and four lead changes. The final tie occured at 21-21 before the Red Foxes pulled out the 25-23 set win. 
  • Over the final two sets in the match, the Peacocks' offense stalled, as the team was held to 15 and 16 points respectively, leading to the 1-3 match defeat.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • For the third match in a row, Alanis Alvarado and Wildalys Soto posted double-doubles, both recording their 10th of the season. Alvarado had team-highs of 15 kills and 21 digs and Soto made a Peacock-best 32 assists and 12 digs.
  • Angeleyshka Curbelo joined Alvarado as the only other Peacock in double-figure kills, with 10.
  • On the defensive side, Karla Seda (20) and Carolina Ruiz (15) also recorded double-figure digs on the afternoon.

  • The Peacocks return home for the season's final matches in Jersey City on Nov. 2-3.
  • The squad will host Niagara on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Canisius on Sunday, Nov. 3; first serve will be at 1 p.m. for both matches.
