Men’s Soccer Tops Niagara for Seventh Straight Win Saturday Night

Peacocks retain No. 1 spot in MAAC after defeating Purple Eagles

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY - The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team continued its unprecedented win streak on Saturday night, besting Niagara, 2-1, in the team's final road match of the season for its record seventh straight victory. Junior forward Dominic Laws and midfielder Jordan Jowers both found the back of the net for the Peacocks in Saturday's contest.

Game Notes
  • The Peacocks were on their game from beginning to end, with Laws opening the scoring for Saint Peter's within the third minute of the first half off a double assist from Jowers and sophomore midfielder Jamie Davis.
  • Saint Peter's would add to its lead off the boot of Jowers in the 54th minute following a beautiful cross from freshman midfielder Omar Seghiri.
  • Niagara would not concede the match easily though, as Dylan Avila put in Niagara's first goal of the night in the 79th minute.
  • That would be the closest the hosts would get, however, as the Peacocks would maintain control of the final 10 minutes and secure the 2-1 victory in regulation.
Inside the Numbers
  • The Peacocks retain their No. 1 spot  atop the MAAC leaderboards with 21 points, five more than second place Iona.
  • Saturday's victory marks the seventh straight win for the Peacocks, which extends their longest winning streak in MAAC play in program history.
  • The Peacocks' overall record of 10-5-0 marks the 12th season since the founding of the program in which the squad has registered double-digit wins, most recently having accomplished this feat in 2010 with a record of 13-6-1 and a conference record of 7-1-1.
  • Laws' goal is the junior's 11th of the season, which leads both Saint Peter's and the MAAC.
  • Jowers' three team points count for his strongest showing of the season, and his season totals for goals and assists now sit at five apiece, while also notching his third game-winner of the season.
  • Davis has now recorded at least one assist in his past four games, and has six assists throughout that span.
  • Seghiri has racked up 10 team points for the Peacocks this fall, the most of any freshman on the squad.
