Madison Greenberg both found the back of the net to help the Saint Peter's University women's soccer team fight back for a key point in the league leaderboard, as the Peacocks played host Canisius to a 2-2 draw in Buffalo on Saturday. .
Game Notes
- Canisius opened the scoring with a goal in the 22nd minute after Shauna Lee found the twine on an unassisted strike.
- Alicia Larsson Vahlberg added to the host Golden Griffins' lead after netting Canisius' second of the afternoon in the 61st minute.
- With her team down but not out, Murrill brought the Peacocks back to life after finding the back of the net unassisted in the 78th minute.
- Less than 10 minutes later, Greenberg put in the equalizer on a feed from sophomore defender Brooke Boutchie level the contest at 2-2 with less than four minutes remaining.
- The two sides would do battle for an additional 20 minutes in overtime until the final whistle blew, as Saint Peter's would pick up a key point in the league standings thanks to the draw.
Inside the Numbers
- Greenberg's goal was the freshman's third of the season and also the most on the team, while Murrill's score counts for her second of the year.
- The Peacocks finished the day with nine shots and five on target, compared to the Golden Griffins' 21 total shots and 11 finding the mark.
- Junior goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt played for the entirety of the match, recording nine saves.
- The draw marks the first game of 2019 in which the Peacocks have finished even with their opponents.
