hOURglass Rival Rider Defeats Women’s Volleyball

Peacocks were swept by Rider on Saturday afternoon

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's University women's volleyball fell to hOURglass Rival Rider in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Saturday, dropping the contest in straight sets (23-25, 20-25, 21-25). The Peacocks have now suffered nine straight conference defeats.

Match Notes
 
  • Balanced offense and defense led Saint Peter's to a 10-10 tie with Rider, before the Broncs went on a 7-0 run to put the Peacocks behind 10-17. The Peacocks would capitalize on six combined miscuse from the Broncs' attack and serve, coupled with six combined kills from Alanis Alvarado, Angeleyshka Curbelo, and Danielle Lopez, to take a late 23-22 lead over Rider. Despite surrendering the lead, Rider prevailed with three straight points to take the opening set 25-23.
  • Saint Peter's  scored the first two points in the second set before Rider overtook the lead and never relinquished it on its way to a 25-20 set win. In the frame, the Peacocks were out attacked by the Broncs (9-16 ), and allowed a 52 percent attack percentage.
  • In the third set, Rider again got out to a better start, jumping ahead of Saint Peter's 5-1. The Peacocks were determined to fight back, using a 5-0 run and 12-5 overall rally to go ahead of the Broncs 13-10. The set remained neck and neck as each team continued to score, eventually knotting the match at 19 all. Rider would close out the set scoring six out of the final eight points, to gain the 25-21 set, and 3-0 sweep over Saint Peter's. 
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Alvarado and Curbelo were the only Peacocks to surpass double digit kills in the match, scoring 13 and 11 respectively. Of the Peacocks 31 total kills, Wildalys Soto assisted on 30 of them to lead the team.
  • Defensively, three Peacocks recorded eight digs apiece in the match (Alvarado, Andrea Lombeyda, and Karla Seda). At the net, Lopez and Soto each earned four block assists, while Curbelo blocked one attack solo and two assisted for three total blocks in the match. 
 
Up Next
  • The Peacocks close out their longest home stretch of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 22 against St. Francis Brooklyn at 7 p.m. in non-conference play.
