Men’s Soccer Defeats hOURglass Rival Monmouth on Wednesday

Peacocks secure fourth straight MAAC win and maintain top spot in the conference

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team continued its impressive run in conference play on Wednesday, securing its fourth consecutive MAAC win after topping Monmouth by a 4-1 score on the road. After going down 1-0 early in the match, junior midfielder Jordan Jowers, junior defender Philip Smith, and junior forward Dominic Laws all found the back of the net -- including three times in the second half -- to propel the Peacocks to another impressive win in the conference ledger.

Game Notes
  • Monmouth struck first on Wednesday night, with freshman Ben Zakowski netting the goal unassisted in the 32nd minute.
  • The Peacocks would strike back quickly, however, when Jowers found the back of the net just over five minutes later at the 37 minute-mark off a helper from Laws.
  • The score remained tied until the 67th minute, when Smith broke through and buried the ball in the net after taking a feed from sophomore midfielder Jamie Davis.
  • Laws would get in on the scoring action himself, putting the ball past the keeper at 75 minutes into the contest after receiving a perfect pass from Matt Hoyt.
  • The Peacocks' final goal tally came off a miscue, as a Monmouth own goal in the 82nd minute lifted the visitors' lead to 4-1, which stood until the final whistle.
