Top-Ranked Fairfield Defeats Women’s Volleyball on Saturday

The Peacocks played the undefeated Stags tough but ultimately fell in three

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team lost in three sets to undefeated Fairfield University in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. The Peacocks fell to the Stags (23-25, 19-25, 16-25).

Match Notes
  • Saint Peter's stood toe-to-toe with the conference's best team in the first set, getting out to an advantage of 19-16 late.
  • The remainder of the frame went score for score until Fairfield found a way to pull out a 25-23 win over Saint Peter's. Both Angeleyshka Curbelo and Stephanie Rivera scored six kills in the set to lead the way.
  • After two early ties, Fairfield took control in the second set with a 6-0 run and never looked back, closing the set with a 25-19 edge over Saint Peter's.
  • Fairfield started the third with a quick 6-2 run but the Peacocks regained composure and quickly used a 4-0 counter, to tie the set at 6-6. Saint Peter's fell behind once more, but mustered up another run to knot the set at 15-15, before Fairfield's 10-1 run closed the set and end the match.
Inside the Numbers
  • Curbelo would end the afternoon with 12 kills, six digs, and an ace, while Rivera followed with eight kills and Danielle Lopez with five.
  • Wildalys Soto used 23 assists to pace the attack for the Peacocks while adding nine digs defensively.
  • Karla Seda led the defense with a team-high 16 digs and Alanis Alvarado pitched in with 12 digs.
