Four Peacocks Reach Double Digits in Loss to Canisius

The Peacocks lost to the Golden Griffins at home, 75-62

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team's second half comeback attempt fell short as the Peacocks dropped its fourth straight MAAC contest to Canisius at the Yanitelli Center on Saturday afternoon. Briyanah Richardson finished with a team high of 19 points in the 75-62 loss.

Game Notes vs. Canisius:
  • The Peacocks started out going head to head with the Golden Griffins, bringing the score to 6-6 at the 5:05 mark with a D'Aviyon Magazine 3-pointer.
  • Canisius went on a 12 point run at the end of the first quarter, but a layup from Richardson ended the drought for Saint Peter's. 
  • The Peacocks were down six points going into the second quarter. 
  • In the second quarter, Tyara McQueen scored from beyond the arc to cut Canisius' lead to eight points, their shortest lead of the quarter. 
  • The Peacocks went into halftime down 19 points with a score of 48-29.
  • In the third quarter the Peacocks went on a 9-0 run fighting back against the Golden Griffins, 50-38.
  • The run extended to 13-4 to start the period after Richardson's layup at the 5:00 mark of the third quarter, putting the Peacocks down by just eight (52-44).
  • The Peacocks would outscore the Golden Griffins 21-12 in the third quarter, taking a 60-50 score into the final frame.
  • After being down by as many as 21 points in the third frame, the Peacocks continued to fight back against the Golden Griffins, cutting the deficit all the way down to six points in the final quarter following a Richardson jumper.
  • The Peacocks come back attempt was not enough, ending in a final score of 75-62.  
Inside The Numbers:
  • Richardson led the Peacocks with 19 points, and also grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists. 
  • Wil'lisha Jackson scored 14 points for the Peacocks, going 6-6 from the free throw line. 
  • Jackson and Cinnamon Dockery both grabbed a team of high seven rebounds against the Golden Griffins. 
  • Zoe Pero and D'Aviyon Magazine each added ten points, two rebounds, and three assists each. 
  • Pero added a career high of five blocks and four steals for the Peacocks.

  • The Peacocks head to Connecticut on Tuesday, January 15.
