Men’s Soccer Scores Huge Upset win over Manhattan on the Road

The Peacocks defeated Manhattan 1-0

RIVERDALE, NY – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team knocked off Manhattan College, 1-0 earning a huge upset win over the nationally receiving votes program in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. The Peacocks conference record improves to 1-1 with the win and the team's overall mark goes to 4-5-1 on the season.
 
Game Notes
  • The teams played over 85 minutes of scoreless action before Marco Torino scored on a one-time off the cross from Matt Hoyt giving the Peacocks a late 1-0 lead in the 86th minute.
  • The teams played a tight evenly played first half, posting six shots each, while the Peacocks held a 3-2 saves advantage.   
  • In the second half, Manhattan held all of the advantages but the Peacocks posted the most important statistic with the game-winning goal.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Torino now has three tallies on the season for six points.
  • The assist was the first of the season for Hoyt.
  • Jason Dubrovich started his sixth consecutive game making a career-best seven saves and earning his first shutout win of the season.
  • The win was the fourth of the season for the Peacocks, giving the team more wins this season than last year's team who finished with three wins.
  • Coming into the contest, Manhattan was ranked 30th in the College Soccer News Top 30 national poll, received nine votes in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 national poll, and ranked third in the USC East Region Poll.
