Women’s Soccer Holds Off Canisius 1-0 in MAAC Opener

The Peacocks defeated Canisius for the team’s first win of the season

JERSEY CITY, NJ – After starting the season 0-6, the Saint Peter's women's soccer has started off Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with a huge win over Canisius, earning a 1-0 win over the Golden Griffins on Saturday morning at Caven Point Field in Jersey City.

Game Notes
  • Saint Peter's controlled the tempo early on, outshooting Canisius 3-1 in the early goings of the contest.
  • In the 36th minute of action following a hand ball, freshman Brooke Boutchie took a free kick from 40 yards out that bounced off the outstretched hands of the Canisius keeper resulting in the games single goal.
  • The Peacock's defense did a tremendous job in the second half holding off Canisius, as the Golden Griffins had no shots on goal following the Peacocks tally.

Inside the Numbers
  • Boutchie now leads the team with two goals this season.
  • Both Boutchie and Barbara Paiva logged two shots in the game, with both of Boutchie's shots on goal while Paiva had one shot on goal.
  • Alexandria Couto and Fatou Doucoure both recorded one shot in the game.
