Women’s Soccer Drops Friday’s Road Contest at Hampton

The Peacocks fell 3-0 to Hampton on Friday afternoon

HAMPTON, VA – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team dropped its non-conference road game at Hampton on Friday afternoon. The Peacocks suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Pirates, falling for the third straight time to begin the season.

Game Notes
  • The Peacocks controlled the match early but mishaps, including a trio of offside penalties on multiple opportunities to score, kept them scoreless.
  • By the 26th minute of play, Hampton's Kynnedy Waldon found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
  • 10 minutes following the first goal, the Pirates tallied another score, putting the Peacocks down two goals.
  • The Peacocks continued to control the pace following the two goals, but missed on two goal attempts that were both saved by the Hampton keeper, Maya Andrews.
  • The Peacocks began the second half with five shots (two on goal) within the first 10 minutes looking to cut the deficit in half.
  • In the 72nd minute of action, a third goal by Hampton put the Peacocks away as the deficit went to 3-0.

Inside the Numbers
Coach's Quotes - Melissa Sherwood
  • "We started the game well and got on the front foot quickly."
  • "We were unfortunately flagged offside a couple times which would have put us through to the goal with only the goalkeeper to beat, so that was frustrating."
  • "Again, in the second half we started well with several early chances and we were very unlucky to hit the crossbar twice in the second half; including one chance that bounced down behind the keeper but it was ruled that it didn't cross the line."
  • "We kept the pressure on and created more opportunities but it just wouldn't go in the back of the net for us today."

  • The Peacocks take on Holy Cross on Sunday, September 2 in Worcester, MA. First kick is set for 1 p.m.
