UMass Uses Late Goal to Edge Men’s Soccer, 2-1

The Peacocks gave up the final goal in the 86th minute resulting in a defeat

AMHERST, MA – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team gave up a late goal in the final four minutes of play, resulting in a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat at the hands of UMass on Friday evening. The lost knocks the Peacocks' overall record to 0-3 on the season.
 
Game Notes
  • Neither team scored in the first half despite the first 45 minutes witnessing 16 combined shots (two on goal).
  • The pace picked up in the second half as DeAndre Brown of UMass got a shot on goal that Peacock keeper Robbie Anderson saved just 41 seconds into the half.
  • Both squads continued to exchange shots before UMass struck first with a goal in the 55th minute.
  • The Peacocks remained behind by a goal but in the 71st minute of play, Jordan Jowers scored the game tying tally on a penalty kick.
  • The scored remained dormant with both teams missing scoring chances until the final four minutes when Jack Fulton from UMass headed in his first goal of the season, closing the door on the Peacocks.  
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Jowers scored his second goal of the season in the game, giving him both of the Peacocks' tallies this season.
  • Jowers and Tom Coulson combined to shoot 12 shots in the match, just two shots less than the entire UMass team.
  • Jowers matched his career high of seven shots in a game, equaling his total that he logged in two separate occasions last season.
  • Coulson set a new career mark taking five shots (one on goal) in the game.
  • Sophomore keeper Robbie Anderson recorded three saves in 90 minutes of action.  
  • Both teams combined to draw 23 fouls, five yellow cards, and one ejection.
