Men’s Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Cal Baptist

The Peacocks suffered a 3-0 setback in the home opener

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team opened up the 2018 campaign by falling at home to Cal Baptist on Friday afternoon at Lincoln Turf Field in Jersey City.
 
Game Notes
  • Preston Judd of Cal Baptist got a shot off 13 seconds into the contest but Peacock goalie Robbie Anderson made an outstanding diving save to get the contest underway.
  • In the 7th minute of play, Judd put the Lancers on the board with a goal.
  • The Peacocks first opportunity to score in the half came when forward Jordan Jowers beat his man and received a cross in the box from Dominic Laws but his shot sailed high over the goal post.
  • In the final minute of the first half, Frederik Lindqvist attempted a header from Jamie Davis' corner kick that went wide left, ending the half with the Peacocks behind by one goal.
  • Cal Baptist tallied two more goals in the second half from Judd in the 59th and 85th minutes extending the Peacock deficit to 3-0.
  • One final attempt to erase the shutout by the Peacocks came by way of a header from Nick Marna in the 87th minute of play that was barely stopped by Cal Baptist keeper Albert Escuin.

  • Tom Coulson, Jowers, Lindqvist, and Marna each logged a shot in the contest with Coulson's and Marna's shots on goal.
  • The Peacocks had the corner kicks advantage in the game, posting a 5-2 edge.
