Women’s Basketball Closes Non-Conference Play Against Fairleigh Dickinson

  • The Peacocks are back home after an 11 day gap for a match up against Fairleigh Dickinson.
  • The game will be played at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City at 7 p.m. 
  • This is the Peacocks' final non-conference game before MAAC play begins on January 4. 
  • Saint Peter's sits at 4-6 after falling to Saint Francis Brooklyn, 70-74, on December 10. 
  • Briyanah Richardson led the Peacocks in scoring against SFBK, finishing with 21 points.
  • Zoe Pero recorded her third double double this season, adding 16 points and 10 rebounds.  
  • The Peacocks earned wins against Wagner on November 30; the team also has wins over NJIT and LIU Brooklyn in Jersey City as well, as well as a win over Lafayette on the road.

  • The Knights are currently sitting at 2-7 this season. 
  • FDU picked up their two wins against Rutgers Newark and NJIT.
  • The last game FDU played was on December 8, falling to Stony Brook, 63-49.

Anna Maguire's Three Point Performance vs. Yale
  • Maguire made seven three pointers against Yale University.
  • She was just one 3-pointer away from tying the three point record in a single game.
  • The 3-point record is eight three's in a single game; Bridget Whitfield holds that record going 8-8 against Siena in 2013.  
Best Start in over a Decade
  • The Peacocks began the season with a 4-2 mark through six games and a perfect 3-0 start in the Yanitelli Center. 
  • The 4-2 start was the best start for the Peacocks since starting the season 5-1 in 2007.
  •  2007 was also the last time the Peacocks started the season 3-0 at home.
MAAC Weekly Honors
  • Freshman, Briyanah Richardson was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the second time following the Peacocks' win against Lafayette. 
  • Richardson earned MAAC Rookie of the Week following her collegiate debut in the opening week of the season.  
2018 Peacocks: 
  • The Peacocks return six players from last year's team.
  • The Peacocks have three starters returning to the squad:
  • Zoe Pero (Secaucus, NJ/Saint John Vianney) is the only junior that is a returning starter. Pero appeared in 29 games last season, making 15 starts. She averaged 9.9 points and 5.7 rebounds last season. Pero finished last season as the team leader in points and rebounds, totaling 260 points and 166 boards.
  • D'Aviyon Magazine (Paterson, NJ/Queen of Peace) is another returning starter for the Peacocks.She averaged 4.5 points and 1.1 rebounds in her rookie campaign. Magazine played in 29 games, including 17 starts. She finished with the highest free throw percentage last season, shooting .857 from the charity stripe. Magazine scored 130 points last season, which is the second highest amount for the returning players.
  • Dajiah Martin (Westbury, NY/ Saint Mary's) is the final returning starter, after appearing in all 30 games, starting in 28 of them as a freshman last year. She averaged 3.0 points and 3.9 rebounds last season. Martin is the second highest returner in rebounds and blocks after grabbing 118 rebounds. 
  • The final three returning Peacocks are Anna Maguire (Belfast Ireland, Ulidia Integrated College), Precious Featherson (Paterson, NJ/ Rosa Parks), and Sammy Lochner (Abington, PA, Abington). Maguire appeared in 11 games, averaging .8 points and .4 rebounds. Featherson, who appeared in 20 of the games last season, averaging 1.5 points and .8 rebounds. Lochner appeared in 30 games and had 13 starts. She led the team last season with 72 assists and she averaged 3.0 points and 1.0 rebounds for the season. 
Welcome To Jersey City:
  • The Peacocks welcome nine newcomers to the lineup this season. 
  • The additions include three transfers and six freshmen. 
  • The three transfers are Gabrielle Harris (South River, NJ/ South River/William Paterson/FDU-Florham), Kendrea Williams (Piscataway/Piscataway/FDU-Florham), and Taiah Thornton (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic/FDU-Florham). Williams and Thornton come to Jersey City after playing two seasons at FDU-Florham. Harris played one season at William Paterson, followed by one season at FDU-Florham. The trio will not see playing time until 2019-20, due to NCAA transfer rules.
  • The six freshmen joining the squad this season are Cinnamon Dockery (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum), Jordyn Hawthorne (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan),Phylina Holmes (Warsaw, NC /James Kenan), Wil'lisha Jackson (Rahway, NJ/Rahway), Tyara McQueen (Rahway, NJ/Roselle Catholic), Briyanah Richardson (New Brunswick, NJ/Matawan Regional). 
Head Coach Marc Mitchell:
  • Mitchell comes to Jersey City after spending the last nine years at the helm of the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's basketball team.
  • While there, he became the Division III program's all-time winningest coach, compiling a career record of 187-67 (.736). 
  • Under his guidance, the Devils claimed an unprecedented six straight Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championships, making six straight NCAA Division III tournament appearances. During the six-year run, Mitchell's teams won 20 or more games in every season and he won 86.5 percent of his contests posting a 154-24 overall record over the half dozen year span.
  • Mitchell's best campaign came during the 2013-14 season, when the Devils posted a perfect 33-0 record and capped off the season as the NCAA Division III national champions. The national title was the first in FDU-Florham history and the Devils became the first NCAA Division III women's basketball champions from the state of New Jersey.
