Women’s Volleyball Advances To Second Round In The MAAC Championship After Taking Down Marist

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team won its first postseason victory since 2006 on Thursday night after defeating Marist College in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The team won the match in four sets, claiming a 3-1 win and will advance to the second round of the tournament also for the first time since the 2006 campaign.
 
Game Notes vs. Marist: 

• Saint Peter's (9-24, 5-13 MAAC), avenged two losses to Marist during the regular season after losing to the Red Foxes in Poughkeepsie (3-0), then again in Jersey City (3-1). 
• The Peacocks took down the Red Foxes in impressive fashion with their season on the line, winning 3-1.
• The Peacocks jumped all the way out to a 16-9 advantage in the opening set midway through. 
• With set point and a 24-19 lead, Marist made a comeback attempt getting to within one point of the Peacocks but a block by Natalia Carbonell Torres closed out the first set for the Peacocks. 
• Marist came back and took the second set of the match (19-25).
• The Peacocks powered through, winning the next two sets by identical scores of (25-23) to advance in the tournament. 
• Over the final two sets, the Peacocks combined to tally 26 team kills with Karen Ramiu and Alanis Alvarado leading the way with eight and seven kills respectively.  
• This was the third win in a row for the Peacocks, the team's first three match win streak since 2008. 
• This is also the program's most wins in a season since 2008. 

Inside the Numbers:

• Ramiu recorded her ninth double double in the match.
• Ramiu recorded 17 kills and 12 digs for the Peacocks to lead the team.
• Alvarado finished with seven kills and tallied 14 digs.
• Angeleyshka Curbelo contributed 12 kills to help the Peacocks earn the win, with six of the attacks coming in the first set.
• Karla Seda added 16 digs for the Peacocks.
• Wildalys Soto recorded 19 assists and Angelee Ng was right behind her, finishing with 15 assists.
