Career Night for Samuel Idowu Not Enough as Men’s Basketball Stumbles at Bryant

Samuel Idowu scored a career-high 25 points but the Peacocks fell to Bryant on Wednesday night in Rhode Island

SMITHFIELD, RI – Senior forward Samuel Idowu led all-scorers with a career-high 25 points against Bryant University on Wednesday night in Smithfield, RI. Despite Idowu's efforts, the Peacocks were defeated by the Bulldogs, 71-63.
 
Game Notes
  • The Peacocks jumped out to their first lead following a steal by Manny Dixon which resulted in a fast break layup for Davauhnte Turner, giving the Peacocks a 10-8 lead.
  • Bryant would respond by scoring seven straight points to go up 15-10.
  • Coming out of the under 12-minute media timeout, it became the Idowu show as he scored nine straight Peacock points behind three layups in the paint and a three pointer from the top of the key, but Saint Peter's still trailed Bryant by six points (25-19).
  • Saint Peter's scored 13 of the halves final 19 points powered by points from four different Peacocks (KC Ndefo, Cameron Jones, Quinn Taylor, and Dallas Watson) putting the Peacocks ahead 32-31 at the half.
  • The first five minutes of the second half was back and forth action between both squads as the teams combined for five lead changes and two ties to start the frame.
  • Bryant would eventually go up 50-41 before Idowu got back to business, this time scoring 11 straight points for Saint Peter's and 13 out of 15 points, pulling the Peacocks to within five points during his run.
  • That would be the closest the Peacocks got for the remainder of the night as Bryant pulled away in the game, extending its lead to double-digits before taking the game, 71-63.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • In addition to his career-high scoring night, Idowu added nine rebounds and converted on a career-best 11 field goals.
  • Peacock leading scorer Turner scored just 10 points.
  • Taylor recorded nine points and six assists, serving as the Peacocks' third leading scorer on the night.
  • Four different Bulldogs scored in double figures with Adam Grant and Sebastian Townes leading the team with 18 points each.
